Motorhome Holidays - FAQ

1. Who can drive the Motor home?

  • Insurance can be provided for drivers between the ages of 21 to 99 years who have held a full licence for a minimum period of 1 year.
  • All our vehicles are under 3.5 tonnes so can be driven using a standard licence.

2. Do I need a UK licence to drive the Motor home?

  • We can insure Non UK licence holders between the ages of 21 to 99 years. A specific International Driving Licence is not required.

3. Can I drive with points on my licence?

  • Yes but if you currently have more than 8 points we will not be able to provide insurance
  • A insurance surcharge will apply as per conviction
  • Convictions over 3 years old are not required to be declared, apart from DD DR and IN convictions.

4. Is insurance included within the cost of the hire?

  • Yes you will be provided with fully comprehensive insurance.

5. Can I obtain my own insurance for the motor home?

  • No, we supply the insurance to ensure an adequate level of cover is provided.

6. Can I take the motor home abroad?

  • Travel is permitted to any European destination
  • EU travel surcharge may apply

7. Will travelling abroad cost more money?

  • If you wish to travel to Europe, you are required to pay a refundable security deposit of £1250.00

8. Do you supply EU Travel Conversion kits?

  • No the EU Conversion kits are required to be purchased by hirer prior to travel or from the outbound port or Channel Tunnel Terminal

9. Can the vehicles go through the Channel Tunnel?

  • Yes all our vehicles can use the tunnel as none of our vehicles carry LPG gas

10. What happens if I break down?

  • All our vehicles are provided with full breakdown cover the contact numbers for which are supplied within the motor home

11. Can I take a pet?

  • All our vehicles are pet friendly
  • A charge of £6 per insurable day will apply unless the appropriate package is purchased which includes this element.

12. How many seat belts do the vehicles have?

  • The small (2 berth + infant) vehicle has 4 seatbelts
  • The medium (6 berth) vehicle has 6 seatbelts
  • The large (6 berth + infant) vehicle has 6 seatbelts

13. Do you have any automatic vehicles?

  • No, all our vehicles have manual transmission.

14. How old are the motor homes?

  • All motorhomes are under 5 years old and are regularly serviced and well maintained.

15. What time can I collect and return my motorhome?

  • Collection and return times are required to be agreed with our Depot Managers. Normally collection time is between 3.00 - 5.00 pm and return time is before 11.00 am.
  • Please allow 1 hour at the point of collection for a comprehensive handover to be provided by the depot staff during which time full instruction of the vehicle will be demonstrated.

16. What do I need to collect my motorhome?

  • Full valid license (Both the plastic photo card and the paper counterpart)
  • If from overseas, please also take your passport
  • The rental agreement

17. Can I leave my car at the depot?

  • Yes, you can leave your car at our depot free of charge
  • Your car will be held secure in a locked compound

18. Do I need to pay a Security Deposit?

All hirers are required to pay a Security Deposit the level of which is determined by the

specifics of both the drivers/hirer details and the travel itinerary.

  • In the following circumstances, a £1250.00 Refundable Security Bond is mandatory and Collision Damage Waiver (see below) is not available:
  • a) Non UK Residents
  • b) Non UK Mainland travel
  • c) Drivers disclosing accidents, medical conditions & multiple endorsements
  • d) CDW has not been requested or paid for or hirer is ineligible to purchase this cover
  • e) Overseas Driving Licences
  • f) Drivers aged under 26 or over 76
  • g) High Risk Occupation Drivers - includes but not limited to those who are engaged in professional gambling, sport or entertainment including film & television, hawking or general dealing, street or marketing trading.
  • A £250.00 security deposit is the alternative option for those who are eligible to purchase the Collision Damage Waiver Insurance.

Note: Insurance can be provided for drivers between the ages of 21-99 Insurance cannot be provided for drivers with more than 7 current driving endorsement points.

19. When will the security deposit be refunded?

  • Your bond would be refunded after 28 working days from the checkin date of the vehicle but may be longer in the event of damage having been caused.

20. Can you provide Collision Damage Waiver Insurance?

  • Yes. The Collision Damage Waiver Policy (CDW) reduces the extent of liability for damages in relation to the insurance policy from £1250.00 to £250.00 per insurable incident.
  • CDW Policy Premium can be provided at £20.00 per insurable day.

21. Is the CDW available to all hirers?

No, if you fall into any of the categories below you are not eligible to purchase

our CDW Cover.

  • a) Non UK Residents
  • b) Non UK Mainland travel
  • c) Drivers disclosing accidents, medical conditions & multiple endorsements in the past 3 years
  • d) CDW has not been requested or paid for or hirer is ineligible to purchase this cover
  • e) Overseas Driving Licences
  • f) Drivers aged under 26 or over 76

22. If I am not eligible to purchase Collision Damage Waiver what will I be required to pay?

  • If you are not eligible for the CDW you are required to pay the refundable security deposit of £1250.00 7 days before your period of hire is due to commence.

23. Is the motor home winterised?

  • The motor home provides hot air blown heating through the internal ventilation system. The heating is provided by the diesel in the fuel tank.
  • The engine does not need to be running for the heating to work. Minimal diesel fuel is used during this process.

24. Does the motor home have air conditioning?

  • The main vehicle cab area provides air conditioning with cool air vents located throughout the rest of the vehicle.

25. What else is provided in the motor home?

  • Gas Bottle
  • Leisure battery
  • Shower and toilet
  • Gas hob/Grill
  • Fridge
  • Pots, pans and cooking utensils
  • Crockery, cutlery and wine glasses
  • Kettle
  • Kitchen starter pack (dishwashing liquid, tea towel, refuse bag, dish sponge and matches/gas igniter
  • Fire Extinguisher
  • First Aid Kit
  • CD or USB stereo system

26. Is there a cooker/hob and microwave?

  • The Motor home comes with a small grill and a 3 burner gas hob but has no microwave or oven

27. Is there a TV?

  • If requested, we can provide a TV/DVD player

28. Is the gas supplied?

  • Yes a gas bottle is supplied. A bottle of gas can last for 7 days or longer during summer months.

29. How many gas bottles are supplied?

  • We supply one gas bottle.

30. Can I use this gas bottle if I go overseas?

  • If the gas runs out, you will need to obtain a pig tail connector to use with EU gas bottles. These can be supplied by the Depot at your request.

31. Can I use the electric sockets in the motor home if not attached to an electricity supply?

  • No, the plug sockets will only work if you are hooked up to an electricity supply. The motorhome has a leisure battery, which will provide the power for the lights and the water pump if mains electricity is not available. A fully-charged leisure battery can last for up to 72 hours with conservative use.
  • A mains electricity hook up cable is provided for connection to an electricity supply

32. Is bedding provided?

  • Bedding can be ordered during the pre-hire administration process. An email will be sent to you during this process when you can request and pay for this. The cost of a double set is £49.00 and for a single set is £44.00. Each set includes duvet, duvet cover, bottom sheet, pillow(s), pillow slip(s), large towel(s) and small towel(s).

33. Does the Motor home have a Satellite Navigation System?

  • Sat Navs can be ordered as an extra during your booking process at a cost of £6.00 per insurable day.

34. What happens if I forget what is shown to me on collection?

  • An instructional DVD is supplied for you to watch along with a manual and APP. A telephone number from which you can obtain technical assistance is also provided

35. What appliances work on gas within the motor home?

  • The gas will run your hob/grill
  • Fridge (if not hooked up to an electricity supply)
  • Hot water

36. What are the benefits of hooking up to the mains electricity?

  • Plug sockets will be able to be used when hooked up to mains electricity
  • The fridge can be used whilst on mains electricity thus reducing quantity of gas used
  • The leisure battery will recharge when connected to an electricity supply

37. How many miles per gallon can I expect?

  • The motorhomes will do approximately 20-30 miles per gallon.

38. Is there a speed limit that applies when driving a motor home?

  • The speed limit is 70mph

39. How do I return my motorhome?

  • All motor homes must be returned to the collection depot by 11am (unless otherwise previously agreed with the Depot Manager)
  • All motor homes are required to be returned with the same level of fuel as was present at the beginning of the period of hire
  • All motor homes are required to be returned with an empty toilet cassette and and empty grey water tank, the contents of which are only to be disposed of at approved disposal points
  • Vehicles are expected to be returned in a clean and tidy condition
    • All floors clean
    • Refuse removed
    • Bathroom clean and tidy
    • Surfaces wiped
    • Kitchen Itinerary washed and replaced in cupboards

40. Are the vehicles suitable for use with wheelchairs?

  • No, we do not have any vehicles with access suitable for wheelchairs

41. Do you supply awnings?

  • No, we do not supply awnings

42. Do your vehicles have a tow bar?

  • No, none of our vehicles are fitted with a tow bar

43. Does the Motor home have a bike rack?

  • Yes the motor home comes fitted with a bike rack which carries up to 4 bikes

44. Can you provide baby/child seats and booster seats?

  • Our current policy is we do not provide baby/child seats. If you are unable to bring your own, please order a suitable seat from from an online supplier requesting delivery directly to the collection depot. The fixing of the child seat will be within the normal 3 point seat belt in the rear of the vehicle.
  • Whilst the depot managers will certainly be helpful to any hirer who is attaching the seat belt to a child seat it is ultimately the responsibility of the parent to ensure the seat belt is securely attached to the baby/child seat.
  • We do not have Isofix fittings for baby/child seats in our motorhomes. All child seats are required to be secured within a normal 3 point seat belt.
  • We can provide a booster seat for which the daily hire charge is £2.00.

45. Do you supply winter tyres?

  • No, we cannot accept a booking for which a specific tyre type is required. Snow chains are also not provided.

46. Whilst out in the motor home, where can I park overnight?

  • In England, it is illegal to park overnight in an undesignated area eg roadside layby, supermarket or service area car parks. We recommend you book an approved campsite.

47. Do you have any information on campsites?

  • We can arrange temporary membership with the Camping and Caravan club at no cost to you, enabling membership rates at all their sites.

48. Is the water provided safe to drink?

  • If boiled the water is safe but we recommend bottle water be purchased if not.

49. Do you supply vehicle with full tank of water?

  • A full tank of fresh water is usually not provided unless specifically requested as this negatively impacts fuel consumption efficiency.Should you require a full tank be provided please ensure this is requested from Depot Staff prior to collecting your motor home.
